In recent times, Berber women living in the Argan valley have been encouraged by the Moroccan government and other international organizations to establish themselves as cooperatives – to make the most of the economic rewards created by Argan oil’s current popularity.
The majority of these Berber women live in small remote villages and are illiterate. Joining a cooperative ensures that they are guaranteed fair and stable wages to support their families, as well as good working conditions. It also provides them with access to literacy programs, plus training on the sustainable harvesting of Argan trees.
At Bahia, we source all our Argan Oil, Prickly Pear Seed Oil and Rose Water ingredients from Moroccan women cooperatives – and we are proud to support this great empowerment tool for local Berber women.
By choosing our products, our customers choose to "make a difference" and take part of a wonderful form of solidarity between women across the world through sharing powerful and ancestral beauty rituals.
