During our last trip to Morocco, we visited Mr. Abdelwahed in the historical old city of Casablanca. He is an artisan and the owner of a family run business he has inherited from his father. He works in his small shop with his two sons.
He specializes in working with leather and mixing it with other materials such as fabrics and wool. He makes beautiful shoes, bags, home decorations and clutches.
Our colorful Berber clutches are all sourced from Mr. Abdelwahed’s workshop. They are handmade and they use beautiful vintage hand-picked Moroccan carpets, crafted in the Atlas mountains, with unique Berber patterns. Moroccan carpets are famous around the world for their strong geometric designs and bright colors.
Berber weaving is highly dependent on the female culture, and is passed down traditionally within the home. The young apprentice is expected to learn the different looping techniques, patterns, color ranges and motifs. The colors, patterns and weaving techniques tell the story of the tribe who made the rug.
These bags, with luminous colors, are perfect to spice up a simple outfit or to complement an edgy dress. Here are a two outfit ideas!
